This webinar will provide information and examples on anthropogenic soils, data interpretation, use and management, and resource concerns to better understand urban soil as a growing medium and not as a pollution source, and feature recent NRCS Soil Science and Resource Assessment (SSRA) Deputy Area work with urban soils.
"The presence of human-altered and human-transported soil material and the unjustified, but understandable perception that all urban areas are polluted is a concern in the farming community as it relates to proper use and management. The accessibility of portable geophysical technology such as X-ray fluorescence has proven to be a tool of choice to answer many questions. New Jersey NRCS has been providing soil technical services using this technology since 2012. The webinar will also feature recent NRCS Soil Science and Resource Assessment (SSRA) Deputy Area work with urban soils, including updating and developing soil survey information, reviewing notable activities in urban areas by the Urban Soils Focus Team and soil survey offices, and providing information on trace elements in soils.
