This webinar will provide an overview of the Farmland Protection Policy Act (FPPA) and intorduce the FPPA Evaluation Tool.
The Farmland Protection Policy Act (FPPA) is a mechanism that requires Federal agencies to consider the impact of a project on prime or important farmlands. The review process incorporates current, soils information to derive a rating and ranking system based on soil production. With ongoing soil attribute and spatial updates by MLRA staff, the need for an updated, rapid, and repeatable method to produce these measurements is necessary. In recognizing this need, an ArcGIS tool was created to append the soil rating and ranking system to the SSURGO, produce the values and maps used in an FPPA review, populate the Farmland Conversion Impact Rating Form (AD1006), and compile all reviews for annual reporting.
